This is a fourth edition copy of the book that started it all. Tony Wheeler, the founder of Lonely Planet, was just 27 when he published West Asia on a Shoestring (originally titled Across Asia on the Cheap), a frugal traveler's guide to the Middle East. The book was so successful that Tony and his wife Maureen started a whole series of travel guides, and the rest is history. Despite the fact that it was originally published over forty years ago, much of the information in West Asia on a Shoestring is still relevant today. Sure, you could put it in your vintage travel book collection...or you could hop on a flight to West Asia and bring it along.
